SharePoint Conference 2012 RoundUp–Day 1
by Ranga Tiruman 13 Nov 2012
Today  :   5     Total  :    5151

If the wonderful welcome reception on Sunday at the SharePoint Conference 2012 was any indication to the following days,  the Keynote address did not disappoint all the hype and expectation.  The events started with a vibrant and powerful introduction by Jared Spataro (Senior Director, SharePoint Product Management).  It was a full house at the first event of @spc12.  With so many new products and upgrades in the SharePoint world, there was considerable anticipation among the audience of any new announcements and last minute surprises.

In a short and crisp inaugural speech, Jared did a quick recap of the SharePoint product development, and its roadmap for the future.  His speech confirmed that SharePoint 2013 will redefine the SharePoint platform and will be the bridge between the earlier versions of SharePoint and SharePoint 2013.  SharePoint 2013, moving away from the Site model to a more sustainable App Model has surely come a long way in the last 10 years.  SharePoint 2013 will be the foundation and the vehicle of growth, innovation for the next 10 years in the new eco system.

Jeff Tiper, Corporate VP, also widely known as the Father of SharePoint followed Jared’s inaugural speech.  He took the audience through the new UI, Skydrive Pro integration, drag and drop functionality for uploading files into SharePoint which drew huge rounds of applause.

The most important update of the inaugural speech was on the Yammer acquisition.  With Social Collaboration at its peak, Yammer integration with SharePoint was well received by the audience.  Surely, Yammer integration with SharePoint will be the much sought after in the days to come.

Jeff’s speech was followed by the Yammer team.  The Yammer team took the audience through a quick recap of the growing popularity of Yammer across business and how it was natural for it to be part of SharePoint.

There is now a new “Share with Yammer” button, which is a great way to collaborate and Share.

Jeff, then wrapped up the session with some details on the availability of Yammer, SharePoint/Yammer and SharePoint in the market.

The Keynote far exceeded the expectation of the audience and raised enough buzz for the rest of the conference.

Following the Keynote address, there were a number of breakout sessions.  Best of today’s pick would be the one on “Overview of Microsoft BI” by Rafal Lukawiecki, great lively session.. More to follow..
